Yesterday.......

Today.....

So this is how Andrew's tooth looks today. Andrew has had a loose tooth for a couple months now. At first it very dramatic that his tooth was loose. David and I have been working on letting Drew touch his tooth and wiggle it. So we really weren't it that big of a rush. We wanted Andrew to be ready when it fell out. After this picture, he pushed his tooth with his thong and it practily fell out.
It has been loose and half way broken that it started to turn black.
So I took drastic measures and pulled it out.

He was totally okay that I pulled it out. No crying nothing.

This is what I got out.

SOME MOTHERS GET BABIES WITH SOMETHING MORE…

I say this on a friends blog the other day and thought that I would share it with everyone...

SOME MOTHERS GET BABIES WITH SOMETHING MORE…

My friend is expecting her first child. People keep asking what she wants. She smiles demurely, shakes her head and gives the answer mothers have given throughout the ages of time. She says it doesn’t matter whether it’s a boy or a girl. She just wants it to have ten fingers and ten toes. Of course, that’s what she says. That’s what mothers have always said. Mothers lie. Truth be told, every mother wants a whole lot more.

Every mother wants a perfectly healthy baby with a round head, rosebud lips, button nose, beautiful eyes and satin skin. Every mother wants a baby so gorgeous that people will pity the Gerber baby for being flat-out ugly. Every mother wants a baby that will roll over, sit up and take those first steps right on schedule. Every mother wants a baby that can see, hear, run, jump and fire neurons by the billions. She wants a kid that can smack the ball out of the park and do toe points that are the envy of the entire ballet class. Call it greed if you want, but we mothers want what we want.

Some mothers get babies with something more. Some mothers get babies with conditions they can’t pronounce, a spine that didn’t fuse, a missing chromosome or a palette that didn’t close. Most of those mothers can remember the time, the place, the shoes they were wearing and the color of the walls in the small, suffocating room where the doctor uttered the words that took their breath away. It felt like recess in the fourth grade when you didn’t see the kick ball coming and it knocked the wind clean out of you. Some mothers leave the hospital with a healthy bundle, then, months, even years later, take him in for a routine visit, or schedule her for a well check, and crash head first into a brick wall as they bear the brunt of devastating news. It can’t be possible! That doesn’t run in our family. Can this really be happening in our lifetime?

I am a woman who watches the Olympics for the sheer thrill of seeing finely sculpted bodies. It’s not a lust thing; it’s a wondrous thing. The athletes appear as specimens without flaw – rippling muscles with nary an ounce of flab or fat, virtual powerhouses of strength with lungs and limbs working in perfect harmony. Then the athlete walks over to a tote bag, rustles through the contents and pulls out an inhaler. As I’ve told my own kids, be it on the way to physical therapy after a third knee surgery, or on a trip home from an echo cardiogram, there’s no such thing as a perfect body. Everybody will bear something at some time or another. Maybe the affliction will be apparent to curious eyes, or maybe it will be unseen, quietly treated with trips to the doctor, medication or surgery.

The health problems our children have experienced have been minimal and manageable, so I watch with keen interest and great admiration the mothers of children with serious disabilities, and wonder how they do it. Frankly, sometimes you mothers scare me. How you lift that child in and out of a wheelchair 20 times a day. How you monitor tests, track medications, regulate diet and serve as the gatekeeper to a hundred specialists yammering in your ear. I wonder how you endure the praise and the platitudes, well-intentioned souls explaining how God is at work when you’ve occasionally questioned if God is on strike.

I even wonder how you endure schmaltzy pieces like this one saluting you, painting you as hero and saint, when you know you’re ordinary. You snap, you bark, you bite. You didn’t volunteer for this. You didn’t jump up and down in the motherhood line yelling, “Choose me, God! Choose me! I’ve got what it takes.”

You’re a woman who doesn’t have time to step back and put things in perspective, so, please, let me do it for you. From where I sit, you’re way ahead of the pack. You’ve developed the strength of a draft horse while holding onto the delicacy of a daffodil. You have a heart that melts like chocolate in a glove box in July, carefully counter-balanced against the stubbornness of an Ozark mule. You can be warm and tender one minute, and when circumstances require intense and aggressive the next. You are the mother, advocate and protector of a child with a disability. You’re a neighbor, a friend, a stranger I pass at the mall. You’re the woman I sit next to at church, my cousin and my sister-in-law. You’re a woman who wanted ten fingers and ten toes, and got something more. You’re a wonder.

I have some struggles in my daily life and have never thought of myself as a extraordinary mom. But I have had a couple people come up to me at church to let me know that they have been watching me struggle every Sunday with Andrew. They just wanted to let me know that I am a good Mom to him and that they have seem some progress from him. I am always toughed when someone else brings my struggles to light and I usually start to cry. Being a Mom is hard work but being a Mom to a child who is special is something else all together.

I love my children so much and I am so proud to be their Mom.

Fun with a plane..

A Couple days after David's birthday, we took the kids up the T-ball field to fly the plane. The kids had fun chasing after the plane and running around.
Ready, Set, GO!!!!!
Andrew would have David charge up the motor. Then Andrew would run round the field while the plan 'Flew'. It was so cute.
Picking up the plane after it would crash into the ground.

Sadly that crashing into the ground did the plane in. This was the first and only time that we were able to really play with the plane. The propeller broke from the crashing. David took the propeller off but it will never fly again. Drew still likes to run around the house making it fly. We had fun while it lasted. Thanks Lisa and Family for getting David this fun toy for his birthday!!!

Birthday Festivities...

Well, I know that I am a little late on posting the party festivities for David and Kaitlynn. I have just been busy with work. So here we go........
For Kaitlynn's birthday we splurged and bought the kids a trampoline.

The TWO large boxes arrived and the kids had fun playing on the boxes.
We first set the trampoline up on the side of the house. Here are the men working hard in the heat to set it up.
Then we moved it to the back of the house once the kids had gone to bed.
Kaitlynn turned two on a Tuesday and I wanted to have her party on a Saturday. I picked to have it on the 20th of August. Well, the 20th of August is David's birthday. For David's birthday, His sister Lisa and family got him a glider plane.
(Sadly the plane only lasted one day of fun. A post will follow)

So it was a duel birthday party but no one that came to the party knew that it was "His birthday Today". I had asked for the whole day off from work because I wanted to make the morning a focus on him and the evening was Kaitlynn's party. But that didn't work out because I HAD to work in the morning. UGH!!! It was alright because we will celebrate his birthday with Dessert once I am done with my diet. This is Kaitlynn with her cousin Addison, ridding in the Jeep.
This is our Friends oldest child, Mya Schimel. I'm glad they were able to come again this year.
Our new neighbors even made it over to the party. This is Victor and his son, Dominic.

There is one more kid that came to the party but I seem to not have a picture of her. It is my friend for work daughter. Sorry Celina! No pictures for you!!:)

After we let all the kids relax and start to enjoy themselves. We stopped them from playing to sing and eat some cake and pizza. I ended up making Kaitlynn's cake while I was at work that morning. I decided to make a Tinker bell cake.
The cake was a white cake with Fresh Strawberries and whip in middle. With the whip icing on the outside. Just like a strawberry shortcake. It was delicious and everyone was very surprised how it turned out. After Cake we headed outside to open presents. It took some coxing to get Kaitlynn off the trampoline to open presents though. She was having too much fun to stop. But after opening a few she got into the swing of things. She got , some dress up stuff, books, a Mickey Mouse to go with her Minnie, a Mickey and a gift card. After presents, the plan was to go up to the pool and go swimming BUT Kaitlynn and the kids had other plans. JUMPING!!!!
Here is Matthew and Micheal Jumping.
One last shot of Mya and the Adults overseeing the fun on the Trampoline.
Thanks to all those who made it out to the party!!!! Till next time.....

The Big 9 and the Big 2

First with the Big 9......
Today I married my wonderful Husband 9 years ago. I love you David!!!! I'm glad that you picked me to spend the rest of you life with.
Then to the Big 2.....
Kaitlynn turned the big 2 years old today also. I had this little girl seven years after we got married.
Kaitlynn is a normal two year old and is such a girl. She never stops talking. I took her today for her two year Dr appointment. Here are her stats....
Head circumference: 18.3 (50%)
Height: 33.5 in (50%)
Weight: 23.4 lbs (10%)
If you know my kids, they are always on the small side when I comes to there weight. Her weight has always be consistent and her Dr isn't too worried about it. So Kaitlynn got one shot today and some blood work up. She took everything like a pro and didn't even cry. She only said ouch once and that was when she was getting her shot. The nurse's during her blood draw were surprised how well she was. They said that she was better then most of the Adults that come in. I'm so glad that Kaitlynn decided to join our family two years ago. I love my little girl!!!
